The Save our Hangar One site does not provide very much information as to what is going on. ( categories: general )
Hangers 2&3Submitted by messmertc on Mon, 2006-06-26 15:18.
I'm new to this forum and curious about the uses/fates of Hangers 2 and 3, and who is responsible for them going forward. I know of a great proposal in Orange County for the redevelopment of one of the Tustin MCAS hangers and wonder about these similar structures. Any help would be appreciated. ( categories: general )
Information?Submitted by zrs5 on Fri, 2006-06-23 20:43.
Is there a central repository of information about the environmental assessments and the cleanup proposals for Hangar One? I'd like to see the hangar saved--they were able to save Hangar One at Lakehurst, after all. I'd also like to submit some public comments before the deadline, but I'd like to know more about the environmental sampling and cleanup proposals first. Anybody have some links? Thanks! Anyone else know of health problems?Submitted by rubenremus on Fri, 2006-06-02 17:24.
I'm trying to track down information that might help us. We have a family member with confirmed diagnosis of mesothelioma (a very rare asbestos-related condition) who lived for a period at Moffett Field while serving in the military. The incubation period for this illness is often 30-40 years, so it's not surprising cases will only now start showing up. If you have questions or would like to share your own story, please email me at getlisted@gmail.com. Thank you. Ruben ( categories: general )
Just an idea about who to contact...Submitted by jflaagan on Sat, 2006-05-06 02:20.
Just an idea, in case anyone on this committee has the ability to pull some pretty high strings... but seeing as wikipedia lists under Moffett's description "Moffett is regularly used to land Air Force One during presidential visits to the Bay Area.", maybe we could get some presidential support on saving Hangar 1? Heck, I aught to get something back for voting for the guy; saving a structure that's been the only thing to survive this valley's appetite for land isn't too much to ask. ( categories: general )

Report on Navy's WorkshopSubmitted by dblack on Mon, 2005-08-22 13:29.
For those of you who missed the Navy's "Alternatives Workshop" Thursday night: Our community put on a good show for the Navy Thursday night (August 18, 2005). We were unified. We were constructive. We got our points across. During the poster session, we handed out the "SHOC Statement." We gave people stickers with our logo to wear. Over the course of the evening, nearly twenty people signed up to be on our list. From 70 to 100 people crowded into the Navy's "Alternatives Workshop." Nearly everyone in the room, including the Navy's professional facilitator, was confused by the Navy's efforts to walk us all through a spreadsheet covering 13 cleanup options and multiple criteria - without any background information. After about 15 or 20 minutes, they gave up. ( categories: general )

How Can I Help?Submitted by savemystar on Tue, 2005-08-16 10:48.
I am a lay person and can't bring much to the table regarding the current problems faced by Hanger One, however I would like to lend my support in helping the committee keep Hanger One from being destroyed. I grew up in Santa Clara and returned here after serving in the military. As a child, driving the Bayshore with my parents during the holidays, my father would point out the window and say, "look, honey, there is your star." referring to the one a top the hanger which use to be lit during the holiday season. That old hanger is a large part of this valley's history - long before anyone knew what silicon was. It should be refurbished or at least be brought up to code and maintained as some sort of historic landmark or museum. ( categories: general )
Editorial: Don't Be HastySubmitted by sbw on Sun, 2005-07-31 09:38.
An editorial in the Mountain View Voice warns, "Let's not be Hasty on Hangar One": … options will probably fall by the wayside … if the Navy continues on its present course toward demolition. Possibly sensing that Hangar One will forever be a thorn in their side if it is not dealt with now, officials seem to be quickly narrowing their options until the simplest—demolition—appears to be inevitable.
